On January 8, DJI officially released the new small-scale intelligent multi-light flagship DJI Matrice 4 series, including Matrice 4T and Matrice 4E. It has built-in AI models for human, car and ship target detection and open aircraft AI computing power. The camera, image transmission, environmental perception and other software and hardware have been fully upgraded to support intelligent detection, laser marking measurement and other intelligent functions. Matrice 4T can cover many application scenarios such as power inspection, emergency rescue, public safety, water conservancy and forestry monitoring, and Matrice 4E covers high-precision professional mapping, refined surface inspection and other scenarios. The release of the Matrice 4 series also marks the official start of the AI intelligent era of drones in the industry.
Zhang Xiaonan, senior corporate strategy director and spokesperson of DJI, said: “From manual flight to automatic flight, to unmanned operation, and then to intelligent operation, DJI has always been committed to bringing innovative and reliable products and solutions to users, so that more advanced life tools and production methods can benefit thousands of industries. With the release of the Matrice 4 series, the intelligence of industrial drones will be elevated to a new level, and continue to solve the growing operational needs of industry users in complex scenarios.”
AI intelligence empowers flagship drone to reach new heights of intelligence
The new small-scale intelligent multi-light flagship DJI Matrice 4 series has built-in DJI AI models for human, vehicle, and ship target detection, which can quickly detect targets during rescue operations, and supports switching third-party target detection models, which can expand more AI target detection application scenarios. At the same time, it also supports ultra-clear matrix detection, with up to 1,000 targets detected in a single photo, making it easy to achieve large-scale target detection, statistics, and density analysis. This AI developer program will provide the target detection model training tools and third-party developer certification paths required for the opening of airborne computing power, which will reduce the entry threshold and R&D costs of AI in the drone field, while truly bringing AI into specific operating scenarios, sharing DJI AI achievements, and empowering all walks of life.
The real-time accurate marking and measurement function of the laser ranging module is also a major intelligent highlight of the Matrice 4 series. Through simple operations such as dotting, drawing lines, and drawing surfaces, the length and area of the operating area can be calculated. For example, in a wildfire rescue scenario, this function can measure the scope of the fire in the shortest time when a fire occurs, providing an effective reference for rescue command, manpower, and material investment. In conjunction with Sikong 2, front-end and back-end linkage operations can also be achieved, allowing multiple drones to share information and greatly improve rescue efficiency. In addition, the Matrice 4 series can also mark the area that the camera has observed on the map, which is particularly applicable when working in large areas and team collaboration, to avoid overlapping operating areas and ensure that rescue coverage is complete.
Full-color night vision, infrared fill light, telephoto camera and other technical upgrades redefine HD
The night scene mode of the Matrice 4 series has been significantly upgraded. The full-color night vision supports three modes and provides two levels of enhanced noise reduction options. The black and white night vision combined with the near-infrared fill light can easily break through the limitations of the dark night. At the same time, it is equipped with six high-resolution low-light fisheyes, and the visual low-light positioning and obstacle avoidance capabilities are significantly improved, which can realize automatic obstacle avoidance, intelligent detours and safe return in dark light environments in towns. In the super-resolution mode of the thermal imaging camera, the image resolution can reach 1280 × 1024; the ultra-clear mode allows the thermal imaging picture details to be accurately presented, and each device is strictly calibrated for temperature measurement accuracy before leaving the factory, and is calibrated by the ambient temperature sensor at all times during operation to ensure more accurate temperature measurement results.
In addition, the Matrice 4 series is equipped with a mid-telephoto camera to cover a wider range of mid-telephoto equipment inspection tasks. In power and bridge inspections, pins and cracks 10 meters away can be detected, and even the instrument data of the substation can be clearly seen. There is also a telephoto camera with greatly improved clarity, with 48 million pixels, which can capture license plate information as far as 250 meters away. The upgraded telephoto foreground stabilization can maintain the foreground subject stable and clear in more than 10 times telephoto shooting, which is especially suitable for various operation scenes such as equipment inspection. In case of haze, high atmospheric humidity and other conditions, the electronic defogging function can also allow the Matrice 4 series to have clear images.
Image transmission, safety and other performance have greatly improved, and the quality and efficiency of drone operations have been further upgraded
To date, DJI’s Matrice series of drones have played a valuable role in many fields such as electricity, energy, surveying and mapping, emergency rescue, and environmental monitoring. The new Matrice 4 series has once again demonstrated its excellent performance in multiple dimensions such as efficiency and safety in complex scene operations.
Taking the surveying and mapping industry as an example, the Matrice 4E wide-angle lens supports a timed photo shooting of up to 0.5 seconds in both orthophoto and oblique photography modes, enabling high-speed aerial surveys from multiple angles. A single flight can complete orthophoto mapping operations for an area of 2.8 square kilometers. The surveying route speed can reach up to 21 meters per second, greatly reducing the operation time. The Matrice 4 series also supports close-up photogrammetry, which allows rough model reconstruction on the remote control without importing it to the computer. Only one field operation is required to efficiently complete the detailed measurement and modeling of special-shaped buildings, greatly improving the efficiency of field operations. Pilot 2 can also automatically generate surveying and mapping operation reports on site. Drones combined with DJI Zhitu can further improve reconstruction accuracy.
If the signal or image transmission is poor, the Matrice 4 series O4 image transmission industry version, which is designed for complex environments, can also easily cope with it. The aircraft is equipped with an 8-antenna system that supports adaptive selection. With the built-in high-gain receiving antenna of the remote control, the transmission distance exceeds 25 kilometers. The image transmission download bandwidth is increased to 20MB/s, and the image transmission bit rate is also increased by more than 100% compared to the Mavic 3 industry series. It not only brings clearer and more stable image transmission pictures, but also makes route uploads and material downloads faster. At the same time, the Matrice 4 series can be equipped with DJI enhanced image transmission modules. Using 4G image transmission, combined with the fuselage antenna, the signal in complex urban scenes is more stable.
In terms of flight safety, the Matrice 4 series is equipped with DJI’s self-developed RTK module and upgraded with a new fusion positioning and navigation system. It supports refreshing the return point through visual positioning, and can complete a quick takeoff within 15 seconds when dealing with emergencies. It can complete the return even without GNSS signals, and can effectively deal with signal obstruction and interference from urban buildings, making flight operations safer.
In addition, accessories such as the Matrice 4 series follow-up searchlight, real-time voice loudspeaker, and high-precision D-RTK 3 multi-function base station have also been fully upgraded. The searchlight can still clearly illuminate the target even at a distance of 100 meters, the loudspeaker can broadcast up to 300 meters, and the volume can reach 114 decibels at 1 meter. The D-RTK 3 multi-function base station can achieve centimeter-level high-precision positioning of drones, has a signal relay function, and can also be used as a satellite base station and mobile station for equipment inspection, surveying and mapping operations and other scenarios.
Based on the comprehensive upgrade of software and hardware, the Matrice 4 series will meet more operational scenarios. Through the collaboration of DJI Sky2 and Pilot 2, drones taking off from the operation site can be connected to the cloud platform Sky2, and the command center can directly take over the drone flight and guide the front-end operations, further reducing the professional requirements for front-line operators, and realizing a remote operation mode similar to that of an artificial airport. The front and back ends work efficiently together, helping industry users create a more efficient new experience of air-ground integrated operations.
